For Complex IBS, food isn't the starting point. Your nervous system is.
If you've tried diets, supplements and protocols, and your body still isn't settling, the missing piece isn't more restriction. It's regulation.
IBS is a disorder of gut-brain interaction (DGBI)
Your gut, brain and nervous system are deeply connected.
Changing your diet isn't the answer.
Nutritional and lifestyle support alone isn't enough, and this goes much deeper than breathing exercises, relaxation techniques or simply learning to manage stress.
How your gut functions and responds is shaped by your experiences, your environment and habits you've learned and adapted to throughout your life.
So let's change the conversation.
Does This Sound Like You?
- Your symptoms feel unpredictable. Something that's fine one day leaves you bloated, cramping or uncomfortable the next.
- Perhaps you've tried Low FODMAP, cutting out gluten, probiotics, more fibre, less fibre. Yet your IBS keeps coming back.
- It feels like your 'safe food' list keeps getting shorter. Removing certain foods may help for a while, but pretty soon you're back where you started, with less to eat, more to worry about, and looking for yet another thing to cut out.
- Maybe you've had the tests, even examinations, and been told everything looks "normal." But nobody's looked at your stress, sleep, hormones or what the last few years have actually been like for you.
- Somewhere along the way, you stopped trusting your own body.
If that's you, you're in the right place.
Where nutrition meets deeper mind-body work.

Hi, I'm Amanda. I'm an Australian, London-based BANT-registered nutritional therapist and somatic counsellor. I specialise in chronic IBS and complex gut health issues.
Over the last eight years I've worked with hundreds of women whose IBS hasn't responded to the usual approaches. Mind Body Biome grew out of a need to capture more of the complexity of gut health and understand it within a wider context.
Alongside my clinical work in nutrition and gut health, I've completed more than 400 hours of training in Dr Gabor Maté's Compassionate Inquiry approach.
This shapes how I listen, the questions I ask and a deeper understaning of the women I work with to create a highly personalised, whole-person approach.
Dr Gabor Maté's work gave me a language for something I'd been noticing in practice for years.
My clients were living in bodies that had become increasingly reactive and overwhelmed after a lifetime of pushing through, ignoring their own needs and overriding their body's signals.
One of the ideas central to Maté's work is that our experiences influence how the nervous system responds in the present, and that this can affect digestion, hormones and immune function.
Nutrition still matters. Testing has its place. Protocols can be incredibly useful. But most important is understanding why your body is responding the way it is.
That means noticing patterns without pathologising them, building stability and capacity before making changes, and supporting what emerges in both body and mind as we work through your journey.

The Deeper Work
For me, 'nervous system', 'gut brain axis' and 'trauma informed' aren't just concepts or words I've added to describe my work.
My approach combines nutritional therapy and gut health expertise with psychotherapeutic skills and somatic work to understand the deeper patterns shaping your symptoms.
My training in Compassionate Inquiry has profoundly influenced my understanding of how we learn to cope and protect ourselves through what we experience in life and how these adaptations can leave the nervous system dysregulated .
By first addressing what's keeping your body reacting and then building more capacity and stability, nutritional support can be applied in a way that works with your body and creates long term lasting change.
I think about the process as five interconnected stages that we move through at the pace your body needs.
Five Landscapes
A truly personalised framework for implementing nutritional therapy and nervous system support.
- 01
Listen
We begin with understanding your story, your history and what else has been happening alongside your symptoms. With Compassionate Inquiry, the conversation goes beyond the usual intake-form questions.
- 02
Stabilise
Before we make any significant changes, we build more capacity in your nervous system and body, so you're able to respond to adjustments without becoming overwhelmed or more reactive.
- 03
Explore
We look at stress, sleep, hormones, patterns and behaviours and daily life alongside your gut and nutrition. This allows us to better understand where we need to focus.
- 04
Expand
As things begin to settle, we gradually widen what your body responds well to, slowly introducing both foods and daily life activities you've learned to avoid.
- 05
Integrate
We make what you've learned sustainable, so you're not dependent on a plan forever. The goal is to understand and trust your body more, not to be stuck permanently managing it.

What working with me means in practice
- Your gut symptoms don't exist in isolation. We look at the whole picture.
- No automatic list of foods to cut out. We start by understanding what’s actually going on.
- No generic protocols. What we do evolves with you and how your body responds.
- Testing is suggested only when it can genuinely support what we do next.
- I will refer to other modailities including your GP if anything becomes beyond my scope of practice.
I won't promise you'll never have another flare-up. The aim is to understand your body better, know what to do when things change, and build confidence rather than dependence on a plan or stuck managing symptoms.

What if I've tried everything before?
Most people come to me after trying restrictive diets, supplements or generic approaches.
These can be helpful in relieving symptoms for a period, but they don't always address the underlying imbalance.
I take the time to understand your history, the patterns beneath your symptoms and how your body has learned to respond and adapt over time. This means the work is shaped around you rather than another protocol.
That's common. Standard tests are important for ruling things out, but they don't always explain why symptoms persist.
Once we start to understand everything in context, we can often see patterns and connections that haven't been explored before. As an advanced practitioner, I also have access to further testing, which we can explore when it meaningfully informs your care.
No. Although Compassionate Inquiry is a psychotherapeutic approach, it simply shapes how I listen and the questions I ask. This isn't about digging into your past.
My training as a trauma-informed somatic counsellor means I'm better able to support what comes up as we work together, both psychologically and through what you experience in the body.
Some of these words may sound intimidating, but the work itself is about understanding what's present for you now, how you relate to it and how that may connect to earlier experiences.
No. Those things can be useful, and tools for moment-to-moment regulation are helpful, but they're only a small part of the picture.
Simply trying to calm your body down is a way of managing stress. My work is about understanding the patterns that shape how your nervous system responds, including what's happening in your life now and what may have been established much earlier.
We work with these patterns, alongside your gut health and nutrition, to create longer-term shifts in how your body feels and functions.
